Unread Mail Notification
The Unread Mail Notification is
available to Windows XP Home and Professional installations that are
not part of a domain. The notification appears as a hyperlink
beneath the name of the user on the Welcome Screen. Truthfully, this
feature is of rather dubious value since it's currently supported by
only two applications; Outlook Express and Windows Messenger.
However, if you do use the supported clients, clicking the link will
show how many unread e-mail messages are available in each account.
The Knowledge Base article listed
below explains the options that can be implemented to alter the
Unread Mail Notification display using the Registry Editor.
