Microsoft Update

Most users of Windows operating systems
are familiar with Windows Update. For those that might not
be familiar with Windows Update, Microsoft states in the
Help and Support Center, "Windows Update scans your computer
for outdated system files and lets you replace them with the
most recent versions." Since Windows Update first appeared
it has gone through a number of changes. While Windows
Update is still alive, well, and available to help users
keep their systems currently updated, take a look at the
screen capture below and you'll see there is a new option
available; Microsoft Update.

In the past with Windows
Update, updates were broken down into three categories; High
Priority, Software, and Hardware, but all three categories
applied directly to the operating system itself and
installed hardware. Microsoft Update expands the coverage or
scope of the available updates. Clicking the Microsoft
Update link in Windows Update takes you to the new Microsoft
Update area shown below. As the Welcome Screen states,
rather than being limited to the three categories mentioned
above, Microsoft Update includes updates for Windows,
Office, and other Microsoft applications. I figured it was
worth a look so I went ahead and clicked the Start Now
button. What I found is continued in the following sections.
