Windows Media
Player and Your Identity
One of the
“features” of Windows Media Player is its ability to identify your
copy of Windows Media Player (WMP) to the sites where it connects.
According to the help file, "The server uses this unique identifier
to monitor your connection. By monitoring your connection, the
server can make adjustments to increase the playback quality and to
alert you about events that occur when receiving streams over the
Internet."
Perhaps it does
increase the playback quality, but I’m capable of making any
adjustments I feel are warranted without being monitored. To disable
this feature:
Open
Windows media Player
Click [Tools] [Options]
Uncheck [Allow Internet Sites to Uniquely Identify Your Player]
