due to request here is the instructions for your bios recovery on acer aspire 5315 notebook
this recovery disc contains version 1.19 bios.

1. first download the attached zip file and unzip it.
2. burn the extracted disc image to disc using nero.
3. place the newly burned cd into your laptop cd drive tray
4. remove the battery and power cord.
5. press and hold FN and ESC keep pressed and insert power cord and then press the power on button
6. your notebook should power up but without any display.
7. you should see the cd/dvd drive activity light blinking as it reads from the recovery disc.
8. if all is well your laptop should power itself down after about 2 minutes
9. once it has powered down remove the power cord and wait about five minutes.
10. finally insert your battery and power cord and power up your laptop in the normal way.

this should have solved your problem and you should now have a working laptop once again.

hope this works for everyone who needs it as it did for me.

Phil36 - if that works it's a great and helpful posting.

Can I make one suggestion - I have a 5315 and know that Acer released several newer Bios versions - the latest I think is v 1.29a (not just 1.29 - that one had problems) - It might be worth amending your post to include this version of the Bios instead.
If computers are so great, why do they still need us to plug them in?

Maybe newer BIOS will not work, but it doesn't matter, as long as BIOS was recovered, you can always update it. :(

Phil36, thanks for the very brief instructions, now I can fix screwed laptops, and charge a repair fee!

Mudhi - v 1.29a does work - flashed mine with it a few weeks ago - flashing with a previous version caused all kinds of problems including overheating.

Can you confirm this.
1. Insert CDRom, remove battery and power cord.
2. Hold down ESC + FN key, insert power cord, then press power button.
3. Then wait for the recovery to be done, be patient, maybe 5 or 10 minutes, then it power down by itself.
4. Unplug the power cord, wait another 5 minutes, then insert battery and plug the power cord and boot it normally.

You have to patient, and you should not interrupt the flashing, that is while it is power up, don't remove the power cord, it will further damage the BIOS, and will never have chance to recover it again.

mjn what version was your original bios
just thinking maybe if yours was newer than the one on the recovery disc it may not allow downgrading.
i believe (but not certain)(correct me if i am wrong) that with these acer laptops and other newer laptops that they have a seperate part of the bios which cannot be changed but is just there to enable a recovery operation to work so maybe you have got to have at least the version you had originally .
so i would suggest that you try what Mudhi said .
just burn the bios file only to disc without the other files it comes with.

Dear:

First at all, sorry for my poor english. I´m from Argentina and i have an Acer Aspire 5315-2529 notebook. I tried to make a bios upgrade from v1.34 to v1.43 (the last version in Acer web page). I did it from Windows Vista, but in the process appeared a message with something like "....verified failed....". When i tried to power off the notebook, it doesn't turn off, so i plugged out the power cord and took out the batery and the notebook powered off,...obviously, but it never power on again. I tried with the steps you published in this forum, but i can't did it because my notebook don't turn on, no sounds, no led, no nothing.

I now, my english is horrible, but i'm desperate because i don't know how i can fix thatr. This notebook only has 3 month and it cost a lot for me because i don't earn much money.

¿Can you help me, please?

Thanks in advance and best regards from Argentina,

Guillermo Vecchio Orta

Hi Guillermo. Welcome to TEG.
Not that I can offer you a solution, but just out of curiosity... why would you want to upgrade the BIOS on a 3 month old laptop? And how about guarantee?

Because i read that model of notebook has a heat problem (fan doesn't start when the notebook come back from sleep or hibernate) and some people fix this problem with a new bios version. But, a understand your point of view.....I did an upgrade because i´m an IDIOT !! :D I recognized that...but now, i need to fix it....

If there's still warranty (guarantee) on your laptop, take it back to the shop. Say it doesn't want to boot up anymore and you don't know why...

Don't talk about yourself as being an idiot. You had a valid reason to believe an upgrade of the BIOS was of benefit for your laptop. Better than those who flash a new BIOS for fun or out of curiosity. :)
As you have experienced yourself now, there is a risk when flashing BIOS. Therefore the general sensus is to refrain from it unless there is a valid reason to do so. And that's what you did. I hope you get your system working again... :D
