Hi, I've installed the XP recovery console. I was not able to logon to Administrator at the recovery console. It complained about the invalid password. But, when I logon to XP as Administrator I got no problem at all. Is there someone can help?

Hi,

Try just pressing ENTER instead of typing a password.

and, so you don't have to worry about the password ever again, try this,
Start | Run | Regedit
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1
Exit Registry and Reboot

In the same section of the registry alter the 'SetCommand' value to 1, this makes the Recovery Console much more useful.

Who Is Mr. Enigma?

By Neil J. Rubenking

If you check your Windows XP Registry, you'll find something mildly alarming—an empty key named HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Mr. Enigma. Is it a sign of spyware? Is it the sinister alter ego of Dr. Watson? A Google search yielded no answers, just a handful of pages asking the same question. This key is present even in a pristine, new installation of Windows XP, so we decided to ask our contacts at Microsoft for help in identifying it.

After some internal research, Microsoft found the source. Despite the enigmatic name, the entry is harmless. It apparently relates to "a workaround for supporting region encoding for DVD RPC Phase 1 drives on Windows 95." There's clearly no point in retaining this key in Windows XP, and in fact, Microsoft plans to remove it, possibly in an upcoming Service Pack. As for why the name Mr. Enigma, the company declined to share the joke, saying it was just "too stupid." Goodbye, Mr. Enigma.

Heh, maybe your key was erased by CCleaner...

It's a true mystery... some have the key, others dont. I've checked 3 machines, 2 have the key... spooky

Remember this conversation?

"Bruce Wayne: Perhaps letters of the alphabet.
Alfred Pennyworth: Of course, 13 is M.
Bruce Wayne: 1 would be A, 8 would be H, and 5 would be E.
Alfred Pennyworth: M-A-H-E?
Bruce Wayne: Perhaps 1 and 8 are 18.
Alfred Pennyworth: 18... is... R. M-R-E.
Bruce Wayne: How about "Mr. E"?
Alfred Pennyworth: Mystery.
Bruce Wayne: And another name for mystery?
Alfred Pennyworth: Enigma!
Bruce Wayne: Mr. E. Nygma. Edward Nygma. Stickley's suicide was obviously a computer-generated forgery."

btw Enigma also is the name of a German crypto machine used during WWII

The German codes based on the Enigma machine were broken by British codebreakers working at Bletchley Park.
The resulting decrypted messages were given the codename Ultra.

To help in their attempts to break an even more difficult machine cypher the world's first programmable computer, codenamed Colossus, was built in 1944.

Colossus was the brainchild of a Post Office engineer called Tommy Flowers, one of the great unsung heroes of WW2.

Also at Bletchley Park, although not involved directly with Colossus, was Alan Turing, probably best known today for the 'Turing test' which tries to determine if a machine is 'intelligent'.

The test is to allow a person to talk to other people and the test Machine via a keyboard and monitor display, if the person cannot tell the difference between the machine's 'conversation' and that of real people the machine is deemed to be intelligent.
