Custom Icons for
Folders
This is one of the
most overlooked enhancements in XP. Prior to XP, a folder was yellow
and that was it, case closed, unless you used a third party program
to change the folder icons. Those days are over. XP has the ability
to use different icons built right in via the context menu. Here’s
how:
Open Windows Explorer
Select a folder. Right click and select [Properties]
The Property Sheet for the selected folder will open.

Select the [Customize]
tab. You can change the type of folder to match the contents, select
a picture for use in thumbnail view or change the folder icon that
will appear in any view other than thumbnail.
