I admit it. I find Control Panel one of the most interesting
places in Windows XP. I like to tinker and experiment. Control Panel
is the ideal place to indulge my obsession -- errr, interest.
Windows XP sports quite a few cosmetic changes to Control Panel. The
basics that most users are familiar with are still there, just
dressed up a bit.
Unlike previous
Windows versions, XP offers two versions of Control Panel. The
version prior to XP is now known as Classic Control Panel while the
new, updated XP version is Category Control Panel. As the name
Category implies, the individual items from the Classic view have
been compartmentalized or categorized into related areas. A
substantial amount of the material I publish on this site falls
under those same categories so it only seemed logical to use the XP
Control Panel as a basic organizational and navigation tool. The
graphic below depicts the nine major categories of the new XP
Control Panel. Click on any category for related articles, tips,
etc., further divided by the Classic Control Panel categories.
The Category View is shown in CP-01 followed by the Classic View in
CP-02
