Balky Start Menu
After Booting Computer
A number of people
have reported a problem with the Start Menu items being
non-responsive after booting and logging into XP. The menu items can
be selected via mouse or keyboard, but remain unresponsive for up to
two minutes after login.
To restore Start Menu
responsiveness:
If You Are NOT
Part Of A Network
Click [Start] [Run],
type MSCONFIG and click [OK]
Click the [Services] tab
Remove the checkmark from 'Workstation' and click [Apply] [OK]
Reboot the computer.
A 'reminder' or 'nag' screen will appear telling you that services
have been disabled. Disable the reminders.
If You Are
Part Of A Network
Click [Start]
[Control Panel] [Network and Internet Connections]
Click [Network Connections]
Right click your network connection and select [Properties]
Uncheck [File and Print Sharing]
Reboot the computer.
If needed, repeat the above steps and check [File and Print
Sharing] followed by another reboot.
The items on the
[Start Menu] should be functioning normally.
